Tu-Tus

Anyone who has a little girl will admit, at least at some point, that they love dressing them up.  When Bella was just one year old, my (Wendy) sister-in-law got her a tu-tu for her birthday.  It was punk-rock chic and looked very fun.  She pulled it on all by herself and couldn't stop dancing in it.  I LOVED it.  Several months later my sister followed a tutorial on making tu-tus and had one for her daughter to use at dance.  Stacy swore to me that it was super easy and that we should make some more for our girls.  But when we finally started to try, I quickly realized those original tu-tus for what they were:  a hot mess.  Together we figured out a way to fix this:  a sewn in waistband.  Now our girls have tu-tus that provide fun without the mess, and we can provide the same to you!

Most tu-tus you can buy are tied tu-tus.  Sellers take a strip of elastic, chop stips of tulle from rolls, slipknot the tulle around the elastic, and call it complete.  These tu-tus typically sell for $20 and up on etsy and they fall apart quickly.  They're no-sew and no-fun.  The waistband warps and rolls, the tulle twists and bunches, and the look is just too messy.  Our tu-tu, however, is a sewn tu-tu.  We still cut strips of tulle, but we sew the tulle into an elastic waistband.  This prevents the wonky-rollover that makes the tu-tu so messy you have to constantly re-fluff it.  It also prevents shifting.  On most tied tu-tus, the tulle shifts, making parts of the skirt fuller than others and allowing for gaps.  With the sewn band the tulle is evenly distributed; no gaps will ever show their face!  The sewn band also allows us to place cool embellishments onto the waistband or to add ribbon and sparkle that won't fall off or shift.  It assures you that you will be purchasing a tu-tu that will always have evenly spaced fluff.  Our tu-tus still get messy when your little girl wears them (you should have seen Lilly's when she got out of her car seat!), but a simple shake, shake while holding the waistband and it's back to pretty.  Try doing that with your regular tu-tu!

Our tu-tus start at $20 for a two-tone, fluffy, fabric-waisted skirt.  From there you can add ribbon ($5), another color ($5), sparkle tulle ($5), waistband embellishment ($5), decorative knotting ($5), or a protective underskirt ($10).  We typically use shiny tulle standard in our tu-tus (unless your color isn't available in shiny--pastels are the usually the only ones with this problem).  This gives the tulle a natural sparkle and makes the tu-tu a little more stiff for great twirling fun!  Most other sellers use dull non-shiny tulle.  While this tulle is cheaper, it tends to look dirtier and wear faster.  That is why we go the extra mile and use the good stuff!

So, want a tu-tu?  Simply tell us the look you're going for and we'll get to work.  You can get specific with your order by telling us exactly what you want or you can give us a look and we'll find a way to make it happen!  Some looks we've done in the past:  turkey, CandyCane Princess, SantaBaby, Cinderella, Pink Lady, Sleeping Beauty, Fairy Princess, Flower girl (this is a different style of tu-tu), Mizzou Tu-Tu, and Valentine's Sweetheart.  As the next holidays approach, we're looking for new ways to make cute tu-tus.  Coming soon will be Irish princess and Lady Liberty.  We can make any size, too.  We've made tu-tus for babies AND adults!  So give us an order and you'll see just why our tu-tus are second to none!
